Last Minute Halloween Costume Workshop

Make a last-minute DIY costume for Halloween with Alyson of Alyson Jon Life. Using a basic headband you will design your costume. The headband and felt will be provided. Some options are mermaid, cat, dog, bear, unicorn, shark, ram, monster, etc. The possibilities are endless. See my Pinterest board for ideas.

This is a great activity for adults and children. Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.

You are welcome to bring your own crafty materials or purchase low-cost materials at our host, Remainders Creative Reuse.

Survey of 20th Century Women Artists Jewelry Making Class

I am joining forces once again with Remainders Creative Reuse in Pasadena to teach a jewelry making class inspired by the work of Suzanne Belperron. Materials will be provided by Remainders, a nonprofit that accepts material donations to provide material resources for local creators and educators. It’s upcycling in action. I will be teaching beginner jewelry making to make a simple necklace.

This class is one in a series of classes taught by local female artists called Survey of 20th Century Women Artists. Each class features the work of one female artist of various ethnic backgrounds and a project. Learn more here about the whole series.

The class will be held at Remainders Creative Reuse in Pasadena on September 19 from 6:30pm-8:30pm.

Ages 13 and up (ages 8-12 may register and attend with a participating adult)

Upcycle Your Denim Embroidery Workshop

Join me for a beta workshop at half price. We will be embroidering on denim that you own. Transform an old pair of jeans or a jacket with your own personal touch. I will teach you three basic embroidery stitches to use for your project. The emphasis is on modern embroidery not traditional styles. Here is a Pinterest board for inspiration.

Since this is a beta program, the price is half the regular price. I urge you to give me your opinion in the post workshop survey I will email to each attendee. The session will be photographed for future promotional materials. Your attendance and cooperation is deeply appreciated. You’re helping me bring this workshop to LA.

Materials

I will provide the supplies.

You provide the denim (jackets, jeans, pockets, and patches). Stretch denim and softer denim are best for this workshop. Heavy, hard denim is difficult on the fingers.

Refreshments

Pastries will be provided. There will be coffee, orange juice, La Croix and water available. Feel free to bring a bottle of water. Think green and bring your reusable cup if possible. There will be single use cups available.

Parking & Transportation

Kleverdog Coworking is located in the heart of Chinatown, Los Angeles. The Hill Street exit off the 110 South takes you into Chinatown. The 5, 10 and 101 freeways are all easily accessible. Metered parking is free on Sundays.

The Gold Line Chinatown station is two blocks away.

Accessible by the Metro Bus and Dash have multiple routes and stops up and down Hill and Broadway.

AJL will have a booth among 200+ vendors at Patchwork this summer. I will be selling embroidery, jewelry and other accessories. This will be on the water’s edge at Marine Stadium. Join me for a jewelry making workshop inspired by artist, Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson! Robinson was an African-American artist known for documenting history with her collages. In this workshop, we will be creating collage jewelry with a history. This session is a part of the Survey of 20th Century Women Artists workshop series.

The workshop is $10 for the one-time session. Some of the proceeds go to funding Remainders Creative Reuse in Pasadena. Remainders is a nonprofit focused healing the environment by passing excess donated creative materials to local makers of all ages.
